Breath 1
Breathing, 2020 Signed ltd Edition of 10
Callum Latimer
Breathing is a selected still from an Arts Council England-awarded film which reflects on the
murmurations of the starlings at an old Cold War Royal Air Force base on the Eden
estuary. The birds use the abandoned base to gather before making an assault on
their long migratory flights to Eastern Europe and Russia. Both works reveal a
preoccupation and constant evaluation of the relationship between Human
endeavour and conflict with nature's continuum. We are at the same time part of and
apart from the places we occupy.
Breathing was filmed using a handheld camera. Experimenting with focus, sound
scape, used field recordings and archive recordings.
